Celery Soup Community Performance Coming to Sanford, Florida

Have you ever… wondered about the barges, steam and river boats that traveled up and down the St. John’s river in and out of the Port of Sanford?

What about the celery, orange and worm industries that once thrived here?

The answers to these questions and more are part of the Folk Life performance using stories gathered from residents of Sanford and Seminole county.

You might start hearing phrases like, “The city with a Story” or “The town that never gives up.” People are lining up to tell their oral histories which will be penned into folk plays and performed by community actors.

Volunteers include Sanford and Seminole county residents from a variety of multicultural and socio economic backgrounds.

Hundreds of stories are being gathered by “Line Catchers.” These stories are transcribed and then written into plays and performed yearly. A new play is scripted and performed each year by community volunteer actors. The plays and stories then become part of history.

Plans for a unique performance venue will be developed as funds are raised from performances, community donations and grants.

Our Vision:

“Driving Sanford’s renaissance by celebrating and preserving our community’s stories.”

Our Mission:

To fulfill big dreams by providing unlimted opportunities for instilling pride, stimulating economic elevation, and to preserve and prmote our home town heritage for future generations.
